i'm 5'11" but at least 20# lighter than you. mine is tight-very tight-but not unpleasant. the unpleasant feeling shouldn't be there. the "right" one is the one where you say "oh there is NO way."įit in the aero position is all that matters, of course. My recommendation for castelli suits to people is to try on two sizes. I've been riding body paint suits for 3 seasons. plus IME with other suits they stretch out a bit with time. But it's tough to tell if this will actually be an issue. It feels unpleasantly restrictive in the shoulders and chest, even in aero. but based on some internet research I figured the medium Castelli would fit best. I've worn Pearl Izumi and Voler suits in size small. I'm 6' and 170lbs with normal proportions. Mostly based on Jim Manton's (ERO Sports) mention that this model tests consistently well, I ordered one. Is it all good if you can just barely manage to get it on? So yeah, it's tight and I fear there are a limited number of zip ups but having tried both the drum tight fit is the way to go for time trials. I haven't made any effort to quantify the drag difference between suits but the wrinkles and flapping can't help. This year our team switched kit vendors to Castelli (my older suit is just generic black but I wore it in TTs after seeing what it did for me in the tunnel) and I thought I'd get double duty with crits and maybe post season cross so I ordered a large, much too loose and I get wrinkles and flapping when in the aero bars that I don't get with the medium. I've worn a medium bodypaint skinsuit for the past couple of seasons and it fits just like you describe where I have to do the skinsuit hunch over to get it on and relieve the strain on the zipper by pinching the suit closed as I zip it up but it's perfect once on and no wrinkles or sag when in the aero bars. Yup, if you're fearing for the zipper but can actually zip it up then it's about right IME.

You need to just buy the sneakers they put out and you’re in. There’s no barrier or entry-fee to call yourself a sneakerhead. It no longer belongs only to the deepest corners of NikeTalk or those who have secret intel of when local boutiques are getting shipments of new shoes. Sneaker culture isn’t some niche, you-have-to-be-in-the-know thing. Michael Jordan fans of old bought them alongside those who only know him as the symbol for the most sought-after basketball sneakers on the planet. Those who never saw the film were just as excited about the shoes as those who remember watching it as a kid. It felt nearly as big as the film when it first came out 20 years ago. So it’s complicated: The marketing campaign around the sneakers was fun and fresh this year. People who bought them in 1995 want them just as much as a kid who discovered them last year. The Air Jordan XI will always receive a big response when Jordan Brand decides to make a new pair, and it’s a shoe that genuinely connects generations. It would be the biggest celebration of one of the most cherished sneakers ever. Jordan Brand centered this year’s campaign about the other guys in Space Jam: the Monstars, which MJ and his Tune Squad played against to save the universe. This time it wouldn’t just be about the Air Jordan XI, but the Air Jordan XXX1, Air Jordan 1, and even the Air Jordan IX that Jordan wore in the movie. It was the 20th anniversary of the film, and it was a major opportunity for Jordan Brand, which had lost a bit of its luster over the past few years, to cash in big. So the same fervor should have been for this year’s version of the Space Jams, too, right?Įveryone was beaten over the head with everything Space Jam-related this year. Riots ensued, robberies were committed, and it got a whole generation of young people interested in collecting athletic sneakers. The sneakers had been talked about for months and sheer pandemonium struck when they hit stores. When the Space Jams last released in 2009, it was a culture-defining moment. The 2016 release of the “Space Jams” would be the biggest Air Jordan release ever, and there’s good and bad that comes along with that. People had camped out for them overnight, retailers had set up themed storefronts for the shoes, and there was a genuine fervor for the sneakers that Michael Jordan wore in that animated film two decades ago. I can’t be bothered with that.” Jordan Brand had reportedly made a boatload of the sneakers, but they still sold out that morning. “That’s just how much they cost these days, I’m not going to bother entering a raffle or camp out for the sneakers. “I can get them for $300,” the man says to his girlfriend. Sitting across from me is a couple wearing Foamposites and talking about that morning’s Air Jordan release, the “Space Jam” XIs. on Saturday and I’m riding the Path train from New Jersey into New York City. Lighter usage will see you easily sail through to the night, but it's not quite as good as 2019's model. That said, the output is strong to look at and something you'd be keen to share.īattery life is only average on the new iPhone 12 with heavier use your phone should see you through most of a day – around 17-18 hours at a push. The video capabilities, including the ability to record in Dolby Vision in 4K, sound impressive, but for most this will be a rarely-used feature. This feature can improve your snaps in a way that’s genuinely staggering however, it's also available on the iPhone 11, and we would have liked to have seen it upgraded in 2020. The former is even better in low-light on this model, and both can now be used with Night Mode. It sounds like a small thing, but perhaps the slick 120Hz display tech would have been a boon here too however, you are still getting a sharp and colorful viewing experience on the iPhone 12.Ĭameras-wise, you're again getting the 12MP duo of the wide and ultra-wide cameras here. The display has been upgraded too: it’s now an OLED screen, the same tech that’s used on the iPhone 12 Pro, and offers rich colors and deep blacks, as well as bringing true HDR to the mix for compatible content. The iPhone 12 design has been tweaked, with squared-off edges that are highly reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 from yesteryear, and a new Ceramic Shield front that’s allegedly four times harder to shatter than the iPhone 11 (not that we were willing to drop-test our review sample). The decision to start with 64GB inside is stingy though, and you might start butting up against that barrier in the not-too-distant future if you like taking photos and videos at full resolution. The performance of the iPhone 12 has been upgraded once again: the A14 Bionic chipset is the most powerful in any smartphone, and the benchmarks bear that out as it annihilates the competition - and weirdly, doesn't get outperformed by the theoretically more powerful iPhone 12 Pro. If these MagSafe mounts turning your iPhone 12 into a proper camera are anything to go by, the sky's the limit. That means we could see some cool clip-on accessories like games controllers, photo printers and huge extra batteries coming soon. MagSafe enables faster and more accurate charging, which is neat in itself – but the magnetic connection opens the door to a new range of accessories (like a wallet clip-on or camera mount) but, just as 5G will become more useful over time, we're pretty certain that the MagSafe accessory range is going to expand massively as third-party manufacturers get their hands on the technology. The new (to iPhones) MagSafe connector on the rear of the iPhone 12 is a really interesting proposition – this magnetic connection tech not only enables you to attach things to your phone, such as a charger or a case, but can also tell what's been connected through a special chip. Its great library and community of writers, philosophers, and scientists were known throughout the ancient world. Goods and cultural influences flowed from Egypt to Rome through Alexandria, which Diodorus of Sicily described as “the first city of the civilized world” in the first century B.C. Trade with central Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and India flourished along the Nile, desert routes, and sea routes from the Red Sea port of Berenike. Its deserts yielded a variety of minerals, ores, and fine stones such as porphyry and granite, which were brought to Rome to be used for sculpture and architectural elements. The country also produced papyrus, glass, and various finely crafted minor arts that were exported to the rest of the Roman empire. Its wealth was largely agricultural: Egyptian grain supplied the city of Rome. The value of Egypt to the Romans was considerable, as revenues from the country were almost equal to those from Gaul and more than twelve times those from Judaea. New structures of government formalized the privileges associated with “Greek” background.įor the first century following the Roman conquest, Egypt functioned in the Mediterranean world as an active and prosperous Roman province. All business was transacted according to the principles and procedures of Roman law, and local administration was converted to a liturgic system in which ownership of property brought an obligation of public service. For almost a decade, Egypt was garrisoned with Roman legions and auxiliary units until conditions became stable. He appointed a prefect (governor) for a limited term, which effectively depoliticized the country, neutralized rivalries for its control among powerful Romans, and undermined any possible focus for local sentiments. Augustus, who presented himself to the people of Egypt as the successor to the pharaohs, dismantled the Ptolemaic monarchy and annexed the country as his personal estate. Rome’s rule over Egypt officially began with the arrival of Octavian (later called Augustus) in 30 B.C., following his defeat of Marc Antony and Cleopatra in the battle at Actium. The largest Veusz’s competitive advantage over some other graphic packages is likely its capability to prepare complex 3D graphs. Graph export possibilities include TIFF format and other standard formats (JPG, PNG, and several others). For instance, this piece of code constructs a simple x-squared plot which changes to x-cubed (it is referenced from the official documentation): import veusz.embed as veusz import time # open a new window and return a new Embedded object embed = veusz.Embedded('window title') # make a new page, but adding a page widget to the root widget page = ('page') # add a new graph widget to the page graph = page.Add('graph') # add a function widget to the graph. There is, therefore, another competitor to the standard python libraries such as Matpotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly. Veusz can be used as a Python module for plotting data. The NumPy package is already imported into the command line interface. Veusz can also read Python scripts from files. When commands enter in the command prompt in the Veusz window, it supports a simplified command syntax, where brackets following commands names can be replaced by spaces in Veusz commands. Therefore you can freely mix Veusz and Python commands on the command line. As Veusz is programmed in Python, it uses Python as its scripting language. Command-line interfaceĪn alternative way to control Veusz is via its command-line interface. Properties of widgets are edited in the Properties window, and their appearance and formal side (font, axis line color, color of labels, etc.) in the Formatting window. In Veusz, plots are created by building up plotting widgets, specific elements (charts, axes, text labels, etc.) that the user adds or removes in the Editing window. Manual formatting involves importing data and manual editing graphs to build the 2D or 3D product. Veusz allows formatting graphs in three ways: benefits of using Veusz in comparison with other programs.įinally, I will also mention some drawbacks that the user can find working with the program.Despite all the benefits, it seems that data scientists and researchers are not well-aware of all the possibilities that Veusz provides. Veusz is a simple but powerful tool for preparing high-quality graphics that researchers can use to visualize their results. In academic journals, the editors require highly developed plots, but some statistical programs do not provide good quality graphs for publication in decent journals. With a solid capacity for creating 2D and 3D graphs, Veusz helps researchers visualize all types of data structures they use in social sciences, engineering, biology, medicine, etc. It is freely available and well-integrated with Python. I use Excel when I'm going to make a document in Word or Powerpoint, but when I make serious maths exams, I use texmacs, and thus I need a way to make vector images.Veusz is a graphing program designed to produce publication-ready plots for academic and professional journals. Libreoffice is a free alternative to Excel, and you CAN export as a vector image in that, so I use that instead. I've tried various things which people have suggested, but to no avail. I'd appreciate confirmation that all the graphs I've linked above can actually be drawn in Veusz or not.Įdit: BTW, I know the usual reaction to graphs is, "oh, do it in Excel!", but as of writing this, you can't export Excel graphs as a vector image to my knowledge. Any help would be much appreciated! Every time I add a break, it adds the break halfway along the y-axis :( My question is: how do I create a break in the y-axis using veusz, in such a way that the graph looks like the third graph in the link above? I'm slowly creating all the graphs here: I'm a teacher and I'm learning to use Veusz to create high school maths statistical graphs. Deleting 17 amino acids (named the DELLA motif) in the N-terminal region of either GAI or RGA confers a GA-unresponsive dwarf phenotype in Arabidopsis ( Koornneef et al., 1985 Peng et al., 1997 Dill et al., 2001). This domain is involved in modulating the activity of the RGA and GAI proteins in response to GA ( Peng et al., 1997 Dill et al., 2001). GAI and RGA are distinguished from other GRAS family members by an N-terminal DELLA domain ( Peng et al., 1997 Silverstone et al., 1998). GAI and RGA belong to the DELLA subfamily within the GRAS family of plant regulatory proteins ( Pysh et al., 1999). Interestingly, seed germination and floral development are not restored by removing both RGA and GAI functions in the ga1-3 background, suggesting that neither RGA nor GAI plays a major role in controlling these two GA-dependent processes ( Dill and Sun, 2001). Although both RGA and GAI regulate these processes, the contribution of RGA is greater than that of GAI ( Dill and Sun, 2001). leaf expansion, apical dominance, abaxial trichome development, and stem elongation) as well as floral initiation ( Dill and Sun, 2001 King et al., 2001). Through studies of the rga-24 and gai-t6 null alleles in a ga1-3 background, RGA and GAI proteins were demonstrated to have overlapping functions in repressing many vegetative growth processes (e.g. Thus, RGA and GAI may function as transcriptional regulators that directly or indirectly repress the expression of GA-induced genes. Fusions of either RGA or GAI to the green fluorescent protein (GFP) are localized to the nuclei of cells in transgenic Arabidopsis ( Silverstone et al., 2001 Fleck and Harberd, 2002). Loss-of-function mutations in RGA (repressor of ga1-3) and GAI (GA insensitive) can suppress some of the effects of GA deficiency, suggesting that RGA and GAI negatively regulate a subset of GA responses in Arabidopsis ( Peng et al., 1997 Silverstone et al., 1997). Also, ga1-3 seeds cannot germinate without the application of GA ( Koornneef et al., 1983). Under long-day conditions, floral initiation in ga1-3 is delayed, and the mutant flowers are male-sterile ( Koornneef et al., 1983 Wilson et al., 1992). The ga1-3 plant also exhibits defects in all the developmental processes regulated by GAs: This mutant is impaired in root growth and trichome initiation, has reduced apical dominance, and fails to flower under short-day conditions ( Wilson et al., 1992 Chien and Sussex, 1996 Silverstone et al., 1997 Fu and Harberd, 2003). The large reduction in bioactive GAs in ga1-3 leads to a GA-deficient phenotype characterized by dark green leaves and severe dwarfism ( Koornneef and van der Veen, 1980 Silverstone et al., 2001). This mutant contains a large deletion in the GA1 gene, which encodes ent-copalyl diphosphate synthase, the enzyme catalyzing the first committed step in GA biosynthesis ( Sun and Kamiya, 1994). The importance of GAs is clearly illustrated by the Arabidopsis ga1-3 mutant. Seed germination, vegetative growth, and floral and seed development, for example, all require GAs ( Davies, 1995). We showed that RGL2 protein in imbibed seeds is rapidly degraded by GA treatment and that the F-box protein SLY1 is required for RGL2 degradation to occur.īioactive gibberellins (GAs) are phytohormones that are essential for many processes throughout the life of a plant. Interestingly, RGL2 expression is regulated not only at the transcript level. We further provided evidence that RGA, RGL1, and RGL2 are all involved in modulating floral development. Using the newly isolated rgl1, rgl2, and rgl3 T-DNA insertion mutants, we demonstrated that RGL2 is the major repressor in seed germination. RGA and, to a lesser extent, GAI mRNAs were expressed ubiquitously in all tissues, whereas RGL1, 2, and 3 transcripts were present at high levels only in germinating seeds and/or flowers and siliques. To investigate further the function of the RGL genes, we examined the expression profiles of all 5 DELLA protein genes by real-time PCR. Previous studies provided evidence that RGL2 and possibly RGL1 control seed germination. Three additional DELLA proteins RGL1, RGL2, and RG元 are present in Arabidopsis. RGA and GAI belong to the DELLA subfamily within the GRAS family of plant regulatory proteins. However, rga and gai in combination cannot rescue seed germination or floral development in ga1-3. The rga and gai null alleles interact synergistically to rescue vegetative growth and floral initiation in ga1-3, indicating that RGA and GAI are major repressors for these processes. The GA-deficient mutant ga1-3 is a nongerminating, extreme dwarf that flowers late and produces male-sterile flowers. RGA (repressor of ga1-3) and GAI (gibberellin insensitive) are negative regulators of plant hormone gibberellin (GA) signaling in Arabidopsis.
